1.0.6

16 September 2026 · the languages of the Americas, in the right regional variant · macOS 12 or later · Apple Silicon and Intel

The Americas were not missing a language — they were missing variants. Portuguese in Brazil and in Portugal are two different things; Spanish in Mexico is not written the way it is in Madrid; French in Quebec has its own punctuation rules. This release adds all three, and fixes a long-standing bug in the Portuguese.

The Portuguese was mixing two variants

The Portuguese was Brazilian, but 41 strings carried European vocabulary and grammar — ficheiro instead of arquivo, utilizador instead of usuário, a Guardar button instead of Salvar. In places it contradicted itself: four strings called a tab aba while nine called it separador. A Brazilian reading ficheiro knows at once it is not their Portuguese. It is now consistently Brazilian, and those European strings moved to where they belong: the European Portuguese.

A Mac set to Mexico now gets Latin American Spanish

Until now MExplorer discarded the region code: a Mac reporting es-MX or es-AR got the Spanish of Spain. Nothing visibly broke — it was still readable, just not their Spanish. Now es-MX, es-AR, es-CO and every other Latin American region get their own.

Quebec has its own punctuation

French in France puts a space before ? ! ;; Quebec French does not (it keeps the one before :). And e-mail becomes courriel. Small details — but exactly the kind a native speaker notices immediately.

These three carry only what differs

Quebec French differs from French French in twenty strings out of nine hundred and sixty-two. Copying the whole table would put 98% of the content in two identical places — and every string added later would silently fall back to English in whichever copy was forgotten. So these three carry only what differs; the rest is inherited. MExplorer now speaks 27 languages.

1.0.5

16 September 2026 · four Nordic languages, and numbers that finally read correctly · macOS 12 or later · Apple Silicon and Intel

Adds Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and Finnish — the whole interface and the whole user guide, not a part of it. And a bug that has been there since the first release is fixed: sentences with a count now pick the right grammatical form in each language.

“1 item”, not “1 items”

Until now, every sentence with a count had exactly one wording. English therefore showed “1 items selected” — which reads as careless. In Russian, Polish and Arabic it was outright ungrammatical for most numbers, because those languages change the noun for 1, for 2–4, and for 5 and up. Russian has three forms, Arabic has six, and the old translations used a single form for all of them.

MExplorer now follows Unicode's plural rules per language. This release converts the sentences you meet most often — item counts, copy counts, folder counts, and the delete and bulk-rename dialogs. The rest follow, with an automated check that will not let them be forgotten.

The Nordics: four languages, guide included

Each language covers all 960 interface strings and all 14 sections of the user guide. File sorting follows each country's own alphabet — “Ärenden” comes after “Zebra” in Swedish, not filed under A. MExplorer now speaks 24 languages.

The permission screen now speaks one language

On the permission screen, the name of the macOS settings app stayed in English while everything around it was translated — the step said “Järjestelmäasetukset” and the button right below it said “System Settings”. That was true in all twenty earlier languages; it is fixed.

1.0.4

15 September 2026 · complete app removal, and four fixes from real use · macOS 12 or later · Apple Silicon and Intel

Dragging an app to the Trash usually leaves parts behind: data in ~/Library, startup entries, and sometimes a system-owned background service still running. This release finds all of it, lays it out as an uninstall plan, and asks you before touching anything.

An uninstall plan, grouped by what will happen

Three groups, because those are three different answers: things that go to the Trash and come back with ⌘Z; things that need administrator rights and so cannot go to the Trash and cannot be undone; and things left for you — lines in ~/.zshrc, commands in /usr/local/bin. MExplorer never edits your config files; it just points at the exact file and line.

The system-owned parts, if you allow it

The pieces a .pkg installer puts in place need administrator rights to remove. MExplorer installs a small helper that does exactly one thing: delete the exact paths you approve, after you see the full list. It refuses system areas even when asked, and you can remove it any time in Settings ▸ Advanced. This needs macOS 13 or later; on macOS 12 the app still finds and lists them, it just cannot remove them for you.

Four fixes from real use

After emptying the Trash, the free-space figure updates straight away instead of standing still. A delete that fails for permissions now says why — missing Full Disk Access, a locked file, system-owned — and gives you a button for that exact case, instead of a bare “no permission”. The three view-mode buttons in the toolbar always say which mode the active pane is in. And when uninstalling, data stored as Vendor/Product — like Google/Chrome — is no longer missed.

1.0.3

12 September 2026 · online licensing and five interface fixes · macOS 12 or later · Apple Silicon and Intel

This release opens the buying and activation path: paste your key into Settings ▸ Licence and you are done — and you can see which Macs are using your key, and remove an old one when you move to a new Mac.

Activation, and removing a Mac yourself

A key works on 2 Macs per app. When the seats are full, the screen shows the list of Macs with a Remove button right there — you do not have to go back to the old Mac, and you do not have to email us. There is no limit on removing and re-activating. After the first activation the app never needs the internet again: the licence is checked on your own Mac.

Five rough edges in the interface

The Trash icon no longer disappears into a dark background. Windows are centred the first time and remember where you put them afterwards. Emptying the Trash from Finder is noticed as soon as you come back to MExplorer. Changing language no longer makes the main window jump in front of the Settings window you were using — and Settings keeps the tab you had open.

Privacy

Activating a licence sends your key, your Mac’s name and a one-way hash of your Mac to the licence server — only when you actively activate or open the list of Macs. No heartbeat, no periodic calls. The privacy page lists every field and how long it is kept.

1.0.2

10 September 2026 · three fixes · macOS 12 or later · Apple Silicon and Intel

The 1.0.1 log pointed straight at the problem. Three bugs, and the first one was the root of the other two.

The permission screen never appeared

MExplorer works out whether it has Full Disk Access by trying to read files only a permitted app can read. One of those turned out to be readable on some Macs without the permission, and a single such file was enough to make the app conclude it already had access — so it never asked. Now every probe has to agree; when they disagree, the app assumes it does not have access and asks.

Cleanup skipped everything after the first failure

If one item could not be removed, the whole batch stopped right there — everything after it was never even attempted, however removable it was. Now the batch runs to the end, and the app says how many of how many were cleaned, naming exactly what was left and why.

The list showed stale numbers after cleaning

The Cleanup screen re-measures the disk when a task finishes. From the second clean onwards, the "finished" signal fired at the start instead, so it re-measured before anything changed and showed the old figures — then ignored the real signal. And the error only reached the main window, not the window that issued the command; it now appears right next to the Clean button.

1.0.1

10 September 2026 · a diagnostic build · macOS 12 or later · Apple Silicon and Intel

This one adds no features. It records in detail what the app does, so two reported problems can be traced to a cause instead of guessed at.

The log stays on your Mac. It contains file paths, so the app never sends it anywhere — sending it is your decision. What the Privacy page promises still holds: MExplorer never sends file names, paths or contents.

1.0.0

8 September 2026 · first public release · macOS 12 or later · Apple Silicon and Intel

The first one. Signed with a Developer ID and notarised by Apple, so it opens straight away — no walking around a security warning.

File management — free

The four analysis tools — key required
